About the opportunity

Classics and Ancient History at UWA offers a holistic approach to the 
study of the Greco-Roman world through a unified major that engages with 
the culture, history and language of these two civilisations. You will 
be responsible for the teaching of the Roman history and material 
culture component of the undergraduate major and Honours program, and 
will undertake research supervision; You will also have the opportunity 
to develop new curriculum in this area. Ideally, you will also 
contribute to collaborative and innovative teaching across a range of 
other units of the major.

The School of Humanities at The University of Western Australia is 
seeking an outstanding teacher and researcher to join the Discipline 
Group of Classics and Ancient History in a continuing Level B or C 
lectureship position.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

Essential:

     PhD in Ancient History or a cognate field
     Strong record of research publication relative to opportunity
     Demonstrated research program and ability to build research 
collaboration
     Demonstrated ability to develop, co-ordinate and teach, at all 
undergraduate levels, units in Roman history and material culture which 
embed the best educational practices
     Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all 
levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles

Desirable:

     Demonstrated ability to attract research funding
     Demonstrated ability to attract and supervise research students, at 
postgraduate level and at Honours level or equivalent
     Ability to contribute to other units within the Classics and 
Ancient History major

About you:

You will be an active and productive researcher with an ability to 
foster the research culture within the Discipline Group of Classics and 
Ancient History. The Discipline is particularly interested in candidates 
whose research expertise will complement and enhance the research into 
the Hellenistic world currently being conducted in the Discipline Group. 
Research interests in history, literary studies, philosophy and 
archaeology that will allow you to contribute to cross-disciplinary 
research collaborations will also be favourably considered, as will your 
ability to contribute to the teaching of other aspects of the major (the 
Latin language, Greek history, material culture and language).

     Tenurable position
     Employer contribution to superannuation is 17% of salary
     Recreation leave of 20 working days per annum
     Long Service Leave after 10 years
     Eligibility for sabbatical leave
