1. Completed and signed application form;
2. Curriculum vitae including passport-size photograph;
3. A Motivation Letter detailing 1) your academic career, 2) your experience
with the study of religion, 3) your motivation for applying to the MA Religious
Studies in Erfurt, 4) your ambitions in one of the five specialisations and 5)
the language proficiency you bring for this specialisation;
4. A BA-degree in one of the following disciplines (either as a
major or as a minor) such as Religious Studies, Jewish Studies, Islamic
Studies, Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies, Theology, Cultural
Anthropology, History, Social Sciences
5. Apart from English and preferably another modern language,
reading proficiency of at least one language related to the chosen
specialisation is required.
Islamic Studies: Arabic, Turkish or Urdu
Jewish Studies: Modern or ancient Hebrew
Ancient Religion: Ancient Greek or Latin
Latin Christianity: Ancient Greek or Latin
Orthodox Christianity: Ancient or modern Greek, Church Slavonic or Russian
Other languages may be accepted on demand.
6. Certified copies of:
a. higher education entrance qualification (i.e. high school diploma)
b. college or university degree (Bachelor, Master, Diploma, state exam, etc.)
7. The certificates should give exact information not only about achieved grades but also about study contents
8. All documents, such as official transcripts, diplomas,
certificates if not issued in German or English must be translated into
German or English by an official translator and certified as authentic
translations by a notary public.
9. Since the MA Religious Studies programme is offered in English language
hence a very good English language proficiency is required. Prospective students
can submit either
a) TOEFL, Paper test: 550 or above, Computer test: 213 or above, Internet test: 80 or above;
or
b) IELTS; 6.0 or above;
or
c) Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: A, B, or C)
